Tooth and Nail Secret Label

Well, the cat’s out of the bag! Tooth and Nail Records have started another sub-label this one aimed at general market audiences. The label is called “Fugitive Recordings” and the band currently signed to it is the Presidents of the United States of America. The band just released their new full length on the label titled “These are the Good Times People”. Their song “Mixed Up S.O.B” has been charting pretty heavily on alternative radio and the band is currently on tour. You may remember this band from such 90’s hits as “Lump” and “Peaches”.

Don’t believe me about the sub-label? Well, click here for a search on the domain name of Fugitive Recordings and it’ll show who owns it.

So what do you guys think about this? I think it’s pretty cool that they have the ability to branch out into other markets like they do. So long as they don’t negatively impact listeners ears with garbage, then I’m cool with it.

  1. Crazy that they’re starting out with such a recognizable name. Good for them.

  2. Yeah…I’m worried about the “trash” aspect, but I like the concept.

  3. T&N signed HE IS LEGEND and their not a Christian band so how do we know T&N will be faithful to the young christian ears of today? Emery, The Agony Scene & etc where never christian bands why did T&N lie to kids and take their money from them and feed their ears with SCUM? Will thuis label have Christian DISTRO? If so, parents beware, theirs a wolf with the sheep. I however support Facedown Records and in the past have supported trusted labels such as Screaming Giant Records & Bettie Rocket Records. What do you guys think about this topic or even my rant? Blessings.

  4. Emery? how can you say emery was never a christian band?

  5. This label will of course NOT have “Christian” distro. It is a seperate entity. General market releases only. I see it as a great opportunity and a way to reach an an even broader audience of listeners.

  6. Yeah Big K, what is so wrong with Emery? I’ve never seen anything controversial with those guys and nothing offensive in the least about their music. You seem to be on a rant there.

  7. Nor was Frodus, nor Spitfire, and Zao, Pedro The Lion and Roadside Monument had non-Christian members in them, etc.

T&N was not originally created to cater to a Christian ghetto. It ended up there, and is slowly working itself out. The fact that they have solid, quality albums regardless of the faiths or lack of faith of their bands is a testament to their choices.

Now if only they would back off a little on the bandwagon jumping (the slew of pop punk bands several years back, the onslaught of ‘emo’ now, etc)

They could use a few more of the above bands.

  8. Wow, yeah, Emery seems pretty solid to me. We all have faults, you have to be careful not to rant against people just because you heard rumors about them.

I don’t care if T&N signs bands that have non-Christian members. I think it’s important that any musician who has a Christian commitment ensure his music is being used to the glory of God, and use their position of (sometimes) popularity to be an example.

I also don’t care if Brandon Ebel wants to sign non-Christian bands. I just hope their content isn’t poisoning anyone. Profanity and vulgarity in music does more damage than people realize.

  9. Well the new label is putting out some trash. Just read the lyrics.

  10. Chris Belew, the singer, makes a living scoring porn movies among other things.

Jeremy Camp and others sales helped fund this Fugitive Records I guess, so what’s up?

  11. Is that true or is that merely a rumor?

  12. yeah, I’m really suprised tooth and nail would want to sign bands like that, even if they’re on a “seperate” label.

  13. lol @ being Christian and being such a drama queen about crappy Christian bands and their labels. All the aforementioned bands suck balls! Who cares if they’re non-Christian bands on a “Christian” label? I think it should be more important if the bands suck or not (which they do) than if they live their lives dedicated to maintaining the lie known as Christianity. All your cry-baby Christians are serious goof balls!

  14. That’s great and all but if you want to discuss this further, please head on over to our official website where we update daily:

  15. Perhaps the most important thing about what is happening here isn’t the fact that the big wigs at a christian label are opening a non-christian record label. Maybe it is the fact that non-christian artists, including Chris Belew, are working with christians that take an interest in their art, and in them.

I sincerely hope that in your professions you offer your services to people who don’t share your beliefs, and are willing to collaborate with your unchurched coworkers…

  16. tooth and nail seemed to have had some shadiness in the past but ii think they are back to jesus. I interviewed Ivoryline and they told me in the interview that tooth and nail holds them accountable. You can watch ivoryline talk about Jesus in this first of a video series.
